Surrender Bono PDF

Known as an artist, a performer, as well as the lead singer of a rock band, Bono has written a memoir. Described as honest and irreverent, intimate and profound, Surrender is a story of the remarkable life he has led, the challenges he has faced, and the people who have shaped and sustained him throughout it all. The career of Bono as one of the most iconic and influential musicians in the world and as the co-founder of both ONE and (RED) has been extensively written about over the years. It is Bono, however, who picks up the pen in Surrender.

It is he who writes about his incredible life and the people with whom he has shared it for the first time ever. As he tells us about his early years growing up in Dublin, including the sudden death of his mother when he was fourteen, Bono shares the unexpected journey that led U2 to become the world’s most influential rock band, as well as more than twenty years he has dedicated to advocating against AIDS and extreme poverty through his unique voice. The best way to describe Bono’s writing is to describe it as candid, self-reflective, and filled with humor.

He explains what he has lived through and how his family, friends, and faith have sustained him, challenged him, and shaped him. As the subtitle of Surrender suggests, the book is organized into forty chapters, each of which is named after a U2 song, which is reflected in the book’s title. There are also forty original drawings that Bono has created for Surrender, which appear throughout the book.

“The reason I started writing this book was that I was hoping to be able to describe in detail what I had previously sketched in songs-only in sketches. Throughout my life, I have been surrounded by people, places, and opportunities. Surrender is a word freighted with meaning for me. As a child growing up in Ireland in the seventies, it was not natural for me to have my fists up (musically speaking). For my book, this is a word I only circled until I came up with the idea. In Surrender, we are told the tale of a pilgrim’s inability to progress … With a fair amount of fun along the way.” —Bono
