There is a growing collection of books that attempt to shed light on the lies and deceit of the Trump years, and this is a great addition to the collection. This book contains much-unreported material, which has been meticulously researched. According to Baker and Glasser, the Trump Presidency has been described in the most detailed manner yet. The book covers a wide range of issues presented by Trump during the last four years, including immigration, North Korea, COVID, Ukraine, and his refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election.
It contains 652 pages in five sections. In the book, the authors interviewed dozens of government officials and military commanders, resulting in many new revelations and insights about the chaos, confusion, and intense drama that marked Trump’s presidency. Throughout the book, these officials attempt to keep the country from veering into disaster time and time again through their collaboration with Trump. This book provides a detailed and documented picture of Trump’s volatile, eccentric, and what might be described as authoritarian personality from every angle regardless of whether you admire or criticize him.
Throughout this book, I have been struck by a lack of clear, consistent leadership on Trump’s part, which contributes to a lot of crazy infighting among White House officials and incompetent responses to crisis situations, such as the COVID pandemic. Throughout this book, the author raises many questions about the stability and effectiveness of the U.S. government, and this book was a fast-paced, intense experience. It is perhaps the ultimate question of whether America’s democratic institutions can withstand another Trump presidency.
The Divider: Trump in the White House, 2017-2021 is a book by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser, both journalists (and married). Several scholars argue that Donald Trump was the most divisive president in history. Throughout their book, the authors provide examples of his words and deeds which were destructive to many people while he was President. Over the last four years, the divide between Blue America and Red America has seemed to grow wider and wider.
Glasser and Baker are superb writers. Their political leanings are obvious to the reader, but they’re actually quite subtle writers. Historical books need to be able to define historical events in that way. Politics memoirs – the first type – are not something I read unless I am sure the author is a good writer.
