As a story about overcoming trauma – specifically fears about falling in love – the book is a very touching and inspiring one. There are a lot of books that do this (I’m thinking of Ugly Love as an example of one such popular romance book). There is a lot of realistic trauma in this book, and it contains a lot of pages where you can actually see how the characters change and unravel from the pain points they have suffered in their lives.

It is explained in the author’s note at the end of the book that some of her friends went through some tragedies when she was writing this book and it was this experience that helped her realize this would be a book about choosing to love even when you are aware it can hurt you. There’s definitely a message and a theme to this book, so in that way, it’s very good in that regard. To be honest, this book doubles as a therapy session on its own. The book is highly recommended if you are interested in the field of mental health and the psychology of relationships.

It’s essentially the story of an anxious-avoidant relationship getting stronger as they both learn to cope with each other (hence the title of the book: Things We Never Got Over). This is such a beautiful story. You will be pulled right into this book and it will feel like you are drinking at a bar with the girls and Knox as you read it. The characters in this book are really great and you can see how they evolve and change over the course of the story. Naomi is a unique woman, a very giving person who often puts herself last in the interests of others, and sometimes it can be a bit maddening.

It is important to note that she is loved and appreciated for it in comparison to those around her who attempt to convince her to ask for more of what she desires. Despite the fact that she is not weak or a doormat, sometimes it is a puzzle why she enables her evil twin to take advantage of her. Her strength is in helping and caring for others. As a result of her bad twin, she is left in a small town without a home, car, or money, and saddled with an 11-year-old niece she never knew about, all as a result of the bad twin. Knox is such a lovable but broken curmudgeon.

Naomi receives a lot of grief from him at the same time that he looks out for her in his own way. Before Knox realizes he can’t live without Naomi and her sassy niece, he has to deal with some dangerous situations. The story is filled with tons of humor and warmth, and even the dog Waylon contributes a lot to it. You want to live in a small town because of the secondary characters in it. Although I do not know if it was an unintentional comparison, I was reminded a great deal of Kristen Ashley’s Sweet Dreams by certain elements in the book.

There was something about Knox that reminded me of one of Ashley’s protective, possessive alphas, and the scene in which Naomi overhears Knox calling her uppity and needy felt like it was straight from that book. It is possible that my comments may be off base due to the fact that I loved that book. Throughout the story, there is a sense of mystery, and there are a few elements of danger, but I do not think it is sufficient to qualify as romantic suspense. My eyes began to tear up a few times during this story, and that is a sign of a great story if you ask me.

This story follows Naomi (36), a runaway bride who finds herself in a small town she has never been to before, her life falls apart while she is stuck there. In the present day, Naomi is single, jobless, broke, and homeless, and she has just discovered an 11-year-old niece who has been left in her care for no apparent reason. It is a lot to handle all at once, especially for someone who has spent the majority of her life cleaning up everyone else’s messes, which is quite a challenging task. Knox (43), an unlikely ally to Naomi as she struggles to make ends meet, becomes a key ally for Naomi as she struggles to meet her basic needs.

Naomi knows that the surly man’s words and attitude are meant to give her a reason to stay away from him, yet this devastatingly sexy jerk keeps coming to her rescue time and time again. Knox doesn’t want anything to do with a needy, high-maintenance woman – or her adorable niece, for that matter – but he can’t seem to help himself from falling for her. The more you interact with the person, the harder it becomes to stay away from them.
