This book is the excellent testimony of someone who escaped “the mass enslavement” of North Koreans – someone who, ironically, ended up in modern-day America when so many are “dallying with the same ideas” that she risked her life and limbs to escape. Park’s book is as bold as it is touching. Her sharp mind is aided by the softness of her voice to tell a daring story that could only happen in America. Just like In Order to Live, Park ends this book on a positive note, and with a call to action for all of us–to help bring our country back on track, and to preserve the beacon of hope for freedom that is America.
Thoughtful insights by an amazing young woman who has kept her grace and humility through a turbulent violent youth. Her gratitude and esteem for the American experience which so many of us fail to appreciate is humbling. Her perception of the danger we as a country are courting through excess and spoiled ideology is framed in the historical context and current lived experience of communist states. It is presented without bitterness or judgment only a very real concern for the perils of our current ideological pitfalls. It is prescient and honest and eye-opening. It should be read and shared.
