This book is truly a manifestation of what Linda represents. As someone who has met Linda personally and had the pleasure of working with her on past projects, I can wholeheartedly say that her words are truly a manifestation of her bold and beautiful personality. Reading about Linda’s upbringing, and seeing the role models and mentors that surrounded her helps one to understand how and where her passion for activism and justice stemmed and then flourished. Specifically, I found the chapters that discussed her mentor ‘Basemah’ – a beacon of light – to be very emotional and raw; these are women of prowess that show that successful Muslim women are those who give back to their communities, and who stand for the oppressed and disenfranchised, especially when they are too vulnerable to stand for themselves. Linda’s book is truly a literary asset, and should be treasured by all communities – her Brooklyn story, and her global fight against injustice (even at the expense of her own self) is raw and real. In an era of influencers, who are often known for their superficial contributions to certain industries, I have a deep respect for writers and activists such as Linda- who challenge the social ills that we face today- whether it is against Islamaphobia, or even in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, she is always fighting on the frontlines. I believe she is destined to accomplish many more great things in her lifetime, God Willing.
